The Anarchist Assembly is intended to bring together anarchists from
the Ottawa-Outaouais area to link past, present and future organizing.

First, there will be a short presentation from people who took part
in the Catapult Collective in 2005. They will give their perspectives
on what worked, what didn’t and what we can learn from this. This
presentation is part of the Assembly’s efforts to learn from the
successes and failures of past organizing. If you have ideas for
other Ottawa anarchist projects that could be reflected on, contact

Next, we will devote time to presentations by anarchist or anarchist-
influenced groups currently working in our communities. If you are
part of an anarchist or anarchist-influenced group in the Ottawa/
Outaouais region, then contact us at: oaa@roadnetwork.org

Community groups currently presenting include:

• The Industrial Workers Of The World –Ottawa/Outaouais

This will be followed by a 1 hour discussion about the proposed basis
of unity, where we will discuss what brings all these groups together
[see document below].

Last, there will be a 1 hour discussion about what we need as a
community, a discussion where we can talk about the next steps in
building a strong anarchist network/community in our city. One
necessity for the organizing committee is that other anarchist groups
and individuals take over organizing the assembly. We will be
seeking commitments from participating groups and individuals to form
the committee. The responsibility for organizing the committee will
then be rotated between different groups every Assembly.

Draft Basis of Unity

The Ottawa Anarchist Assembly is a gathering of anti-authoritarian,
anti-capitalist groups and individuals in the Ottawa-Gatineau area.
The purpose of the assembly is to build a stronger anarchist movement
by providing a forum for communication and networking.

We advocate mutual aid, direct democracy, autonomy, solidarity and
decentralized forms of organization.

We reject all forms of domination and oppression including, but not
limited to, racism, classism, patriarchy, ableism, homophobia, anti-
Semitism and Islamophobia. We reiterate our opposition to the state,
capitalism, globalization, imperialism and colonialism.

We support direct action and other forms of resistance in people's
struggles against oppression.
