WE DEMAND:
-Raise Welfare and Disability rates by 40% now!
-Stop the attacks: Give us the Special Diet!
-Defend Public Services

In 2003, the Liberals were elected on the promise of ‘change’. Those empty promises did nothing to end poverty. For poor people there is no difference between McGuinty and Harris: same program, different facade. The reality is that poor people in Ontario are worse off than we were 15 years ago. And now, things are about to get even worse.

Organizing For Justice MayDay weekend 2010

venue:
Jack Purcell Community Centre (near corner of Elgin and Gilmour), Ottawa

dates/times:
Saturday May 1, 12:30-6:00pm, includes dinner
Sunday May 2, 12:30-5:00pm

Admission is open to all, and free or by donation.

We are planning to have discussions, workshops/skill-shares, and participatory cultural activities. Also we will have ‘info tabling’ by local groups and organizations. Snacks and refreshments during the afternoon, and as mentioned above, a community dinner on Saturday.

The focus is on social, economic and environmental justice and healthy communities. We hope that people will be interested and excited enough to not only attend but also to spread the word, to allow others the opportunity to know about it and participate.

Kenney and Harper are waging a covert war against immigrants and refugees. Swift legislative changes are gutting the refugee system. More and more people are on temporary work programs living in poverty, separated from families, paying taxes, and surviving without the most basic access to social services.

With one hand, Canada and its friends push people out of their homes. With the other, they slam the door, shutting us out. The few of us that are allowed in are funneled into temporary work programs.
