-- ANTONIO NEGRI, EMPIRE AND THE MULTITUDE --

Thanks to all those that responded to our idea for a little regular reading
group for anarchists, the curious and fellow travelers in the GTA. About ten
people or so showed up to the first session we had, crammed into a room in a
private apartment, force fed chips and dips and despite not everyone reading the
main text, we still managed to have a three hour or so discussion on the nature
of the state, where it came from, the features that define it and how, if at
all, we can move beyond state based societies to one based on voluntary
association.

Next up our discussion will focus on Antonio Negri's concept of Empire and
Multitude. Obviously at times this topic can lead to some dark and murky
chambers of academe abstraction. For this sessions we're going to keep it
simple - by looking at his work through some more general articles rather than
leaping right into his brick of a book itself. Though, do feel free.

Digging up the Dirt
A radical research workshop

Wednesday, March 12th
6:00 PM
At OPIRG
563 Spadina Ave, 1st Floor
University of Toronto
*Space is Wheelchair Accessible

Every successful campaign is based on solid research and a few stunning, outraging and evocative facts. But how do you go about digging up the dirt that exposes corporate plunder, government corruption, foreign intervention, or anti-student university policies for what they are?

There's no single way to do good research, but this two-hour long workshop will suggest some basic research strategies and share useful tools and resources with participants. Consider it less a how-to session than an orientation session at the beginning of a long, messy and vital journey intopower, money, and politics; both local and global.

(Please bring a laptop if you have one, but laptops are by no means a requirement to participate in this workshop.)

The realities of disabled people are systemically erased. Though we are an important part of every community, disabled people are actively kept out
of public culture.

Disabled people are imprisoned, impoverished and denied immigration status. The only way this will ever change is if disabled people and our supporters join together to fight for justice for everyone.

Join us as several community organizers address the role of disability and disabled people in the struggle for resistance.

Help us move forward local efforts against ableism, and brainstorm new directions for Toronto-based organizing.

Facilitation 101:
how to facilitate/chair meetings

Thursday, March 20th
6:00 pm
At OPIRG and the Centre for Women and Trans People
563 Spadina Ave, 1st Floor
University of Toronto
*Space is Wheelchair Accessible

A major part of movement building is lots and lots of MEETINGS. Meetings can be inspiring, sometimes hellish, or sometimes somewhere in between - but most certainly what can help a meeting be FRUITFUL is GOOD FACILITATION. Being a meeting facilitator is NOT running the show and it is MORE than keeping track of the next people who want to speak. So what is it?

Come learn and share strategies on how to maintain
good communication, equity, active listening and
effective decision making for meetings of all shapes
and sizes....

Info Demo Thurs. March 20th, 11am-2pm, Gore Park (Main and James), Hamilton

Dear friends,

Please join us, Hamilton Solidarity with Six Nations, on Thursday March 20th from 11am-2pm in Gore park (downtown Hamilton at King and James). We will be holding an information demonstration to hand out information to the public regarding the Six Nations land reclamation and negotiations. We are continuing to demand there be a moratorium on all development on lands in Canada under dispute and that all levels of government negotiate in good faith based on respect.

We will be inviting the media to come at 12:30pm when we hope to deliver a 1000-signature petition to a local MP which demands the federal government halt all development on lands in dispute.

Please join us and/or stop by!

Warmest regards,
