Pittsburgh rallies to support locked-out Hamilton Steel Workers
On Jan. 29th, 2011, at 1pm, two cities showed that workers' solidarity
cannot be confined by national borders. While the steel workers of
Ontario's Local 1005 and thousands of their supporters held a march and
rally to protest US Steel for locking them out of their jobs, their fellow
workers and allies held a protest at the US Steel Headquarters in
Pittsburgh, PA.
The rally in Downtown Pittsburgh, organized by the Northeastern
Federation of Anarchist-Communists (NEFAC), brought 20-30 people to brave
the cold in front of the U.S. Steel Tower. Those present included union
workers, students, anarchists from various groups, the IWW, and others.
The picketers sipped hot coffee as they held signs, which read "Workers
Unite: Solidarity is our Weapon," "Steelers Fans for Pension Plans," "US
Steel: End the Lockout," "Steel City Supports Steel Workers," "Working
Class Power," and "Springsteen: The Only Boss I Listen to."

Booklet: 'Organized Anarchism in the Anti-Capitalist Struggle'
Members of Common Cause Ottawa have come up with a booklet entitled 'Organized Anarchism in the Anti-Capitalist Struggle: Why we need organization - and principles to follow'
It is based on a presentation given by two CCO members at a conference in March 2010 ('Capitalism and Confrontation')
There are two versions of this booklet in pdf form. Both are on 8.5x11 letter-sized paper, 3 double-sided pages (or 6 single-sided).
One is for straightforward printing ('not folded' version): can be printed single- or double-sided
The other is to create a booklet ('folded' version): needs to be printed double-sided
Anarchist anthropologist David Graeber: "Debt: The First 5000 Years"
What follows is a fragment of a much larger project of research on debt and debt money in human history. The first and overwhelming conclusion of this project is that in studying economic history, we tend to systematically ignore the role of violence, the absolutely central role of war and slavery in creating and shaping the basic institutions of what we now call "the economy". What's more, origins matter. The violence may be invisible, but it remains inscribed in the very logic of our economic common sense, in the apparently self-evident nature of institutions that simply would never and could never exist outside of the monopoly of violence – but also, the systematic threat of violence – maintained by the contemporary state....

Anarchism's Promise for Anticapitalist Resistance
by Cindy Milstein
"For many, a "new anarchism" seemed to have been birthed amid the cold rain and toxic fog that greeted the November 1999 World Trade Organization protest. Yet rather than the bastard child of an emergent social movement, this radical politics of resistance and reconstruction had been transforming itself for decades. ..."

Anarchism against Apartheid
In an interview with the Israeli group Anarchists Against The Wall, A-Infos talks to Sahar M’Vardi. The A-Infos interview outlines the successes and failures of the direct action group’s resistance to the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) and the West Bank fence.
A solidarity action group established in 2003, the organization is an Israeli initiative directed mostly by Palestinians living in the West Bank.
Using festive protests and direct action against the fence and wall, the group has become well known for its creative modes of resistance. Most recently, the group built a counter-outpost, which they squatted to demonstrate the double standard the IDF uses against those acting in solidarity with the Palestinians versus those acting against them.
Ottawa's anarchist bookshop a spot for 'fringe' thinkers to gather
You won't get any Starbucks coffee at Exile Info- shop, Ottawa's first anarchist bookstore. And don't try to pay with your capitalist credit cards, either.
Chapters, this is not.
The new Ottawa bookstore opened this week to "provide access to alternative media and resources."
