G20
Leah Henderson: A Letter to my community
http://conspiretoresist.wordpress.com/leah-henderson/
As most of you probably know by now, I have decided to plead guilty to the charge of counseling to commit mischief. Originally, I along with 20 others was charged with four counts of conspiracy in what was called the G20 main conspiracy group.
I am writing because the past year and a half of facing these charges and living under bail conditions has meant that I have not been able to talk as openly as I would have liked. My voice has been muzzled by the state, which has served as a powerful reminder of the many voices that are muzzled by the daily colonialism, patriarchy, racism and violence of the world. While the silencing of my voice has an end date, the work to hear the chorus of our grandmothers and the Indigenous Peoples whose land we stand on is ongoing.

Group Statement Regarding Our Plea Deal (from Conspire to Resist):
November 22, 2011 — As people across Turtle Island look towards the global wave of protests against the austerity agenda, the memory of the 2010 G20 protests in Toronto looms large as both inspiration and caution. We are seventeen people accused by the state of planning to disrupt the leaders summit – the prosecutors call us the G20 Main Conspiracy Group.

G20 Policing in Toronto – Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue…
by Lesley Wood
Toronto Media Co-op
During last week’s G20 summit, police arrested or detained over a thousand people. With guns drawn, they kicked people awake, they threatened, pepper sprayed, TASERed, tear gassed and beat those in the streets. Although the politicians declared the policing at the summit a success, popular anger at the police is at an all time high. At such moments, it is important to look closely at the tactics and strategy that were used to police dissent, not least because the models that are considered successful, tend to spread.
How was the summit in Toronto policed? The website for the Integrated Security Unit argues that “The approach to the Summit would be best described as an expanded version of our approach to previous events based on best practices and the lessons learned.” This seems obvious. However the ‘expansion’ included some new and worrying elements.

Their Laws—Our Loss
by Jeff Shantz
State repression columnist
In events like the G20 protests and clampdown there emerge real opportunities for recognition and understanding that are not always so readily available behind the screen of “business as usual.” The learning curve shifts and some things become much more clear.

OCAP: Solidarity with the defendants now - G20 struggle must continue and grow
Statement from the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP)
On June 26 and 27, the political representatives of the world’s greatest
thieves and murderers gathered in Toronto. They held their ‘G2o Summit’
in a billion dollar armed camp financed with public money stolen from
vital social programs. They threw out some meaningless platitudes and
drew up a plan around their real agenda – solving the crisis of their
bankrupt system by imposing austerity and poverty on people throughout
the world. With the Harper Government hosting the event and standing on
the right wing edge of the discussions, plans were drawn up to halve
public deficits by 2013. They will not, however, take the money back
from the banks and corporations they bailed out. Instead they will gut
public services, destroy social infrastructure and launch a war on poor
and working people.
Across the world, people under attack and in struggle saw that the

UCL: Free our comrades - Solidarity is not a crime
Below is a statement from our anarkismo sister organization in Quebec, Union Communiste Libertaire.
Free our comrades - Solidarity is not a crime
The UCL calls for solidarity in the wake of demonstrations against the G20 Summit in Toronto and the intense political repression that accompanied it. About thirty of us went to Toronto to demonstrate with the Anti-Capitalist Convergence (CLAC-2010) and with our comrades in the anarchist organization, Common Cause. What we saw and what we experienced revolted us to the extreme, and that is why we take the streets again on Thursday July 1st to denounce the repression and demand the release of all detainees.
