Hamilton CopWatch: No More Police Terror! Statement on 'Project Marvel'
Statement on “Project Marvel” Raids in Hamilton
NO MORE POLICE TERROR IN OUR CITY!
Hamilton CopWatch statement on recent ‘Project Marvel’ raids
On Tuesday December 13th Toronto police launched a coordinated series of pre-dawn raids across Canada involving over 900 cops from several jurisdictions executing 67 warrants targeting Toronto based ‘street gangs’ and their extended networks. Locally a total of 5 homes were attacked by Hamilton and Toronto Police, including the residence of a 68-year-old Sharon McCrudden (Toronto Police later admitted they had the wrong address) and another of Pamela Markland and her 6 children. Despite the use of dangerous paramilitary tactics, Hamilton Police have come up with no arrests or charges as a result of the raids.

The Tendency of State Legitimacy to Fall
By Joseph Kay [Republished from Libcom]
This blog has been planned for ages, but has somewhat been superseded by the shift to ‘technocratic’ rule in Greece and Italy. Nonetheless, hopefully it’s a useful hypothesis on state legitimacy.
The theoretical case

What happened in Oakland, November 2nd?
By Americans Against the Political System
As a veteran activist from the anti-globalization movement who has jumped on the bandwagon of the OWS and OO movements, I am extremely concerned about some of the events that occurred on Nov 2nd in Oakland California, but maybe not for all the reasons you might expect. Before I go deeper I would like to stop and say that the negative aspects of what happened are a tiny fraction of an otherwise profound and inspiring day. I can tell you that the media flat out and deliberately lied about our numbers. Conservative estimates are at 50,000. Its hard to know for sure because the march stretched for 4 miles with 3 separate marches, the smaller one estimated at 20,000. This looked far bigger than Seattle 1999 which some claim was 60k. This is only the third General Strike since the days of the IWW, which is profound. What we accomplished is HUGE and should be an inspiration to the rest of the movement.

Noam Chomsky on Anarchism
During a visit to Oslo Noam Chomsky gave a 70 minute video interview with our Anarkismo sister group, Counterpower. Chomsky says the most important task is the creation of Libertarian Socialist organisations and that if we keep the current system we are doomed. Counterpower describe the event as "an evening dedicated to the question of alternatives both beyond capitalism and state socialism, including what the alternative could look like and how we could get there."
The video of the interview is above, the first minute - which is in Norwegian - is bascially Chomsky being introduced to the audience and some practical information about the meeting. The remainder of the interview is conducted in English

Hamilton Police Man's Ball party crashers: "Party's over for Hamilton cops!"
By DevinK
The Hamilton Police encountered some uninvited guests at their annual Police Man’s Ball, held September 22 at LIUNA Hall. The Ball, or Chief’s Gala as it was called this year, was a high class, $125-per-plate affair hosted by Chief Glenn De Caire. The party crashers, on the other hand, were roughly 50 loud and angry Hamiltonians responding to a call out issued by 905 Against Police Brutality to form a “People’s Gala” to celebrate resistance to police abuse in our communities.

Postal Worker Solidarity Defeats Compulsory Overtime
By Rachel Stafford
For those of us who get excited about workers sticking up for themselves and fighting the bosses, I have been pretty lucky to have been able to participate in what has turned out to be a really inspiring wave of struggle over the past few months. My national union has been in negotiations for a new collective agreement over the past seven months, but what people are agitated about on the floor isn’t up for negotiation.
