KW action for "this is what a demonstration looks like" followed by police intimidation
In Kitchener/Waterloo today, we, community organizers, conscious citizens, engaged students, and concerned professors, marched from WLU to the Waterloo police station, as part of the "This is what a public demonstration looks like" day of action. Police were quickly on hand as soon as we left the campus, immediately threatening that should we walk onto the street police will take action. We managed to make it to the police station marching on the road with police following in and around the march, without any trouble however.
With banners reading "no one is free" and "until we are all free," we rallied out front of the Waterloo police station, demanding justice and standing up for our friends and allies, making it clear that ruling a public panel is a public demonstration, is unacceptable and will be challenged. We will not remain silent while our community members are repressed, as this ruling sets a grave precedent for all future organizers.
After chants and speeches, the group dispersed, with a few of us heading to a friends house for food. Soon after, two cruisers pulled out front, with 3 officers coming onto the property asking to know if a friend was at the house and generally trying to find anything out from us. One of the officers was also at the rally out front of the police station. After we repeatedly told them to leave, an officer took a picture of our friend and they left the property. A visit from the police is never pleasant and it took us a little while to forget the incident, with the fairly large car crash down the road providing some distraction from the occurrence.
